I haven't blogged in awhile, in fear of me driving you all crazy with my health and exercise stuff, but then i thought, well i drive people crazy any way, so whats the difference??
Hearing about jack lalanne dying yesterday made me start thinking. wow, he lived his whole life exercising and eating healthy and yet he died???? I was watching the TODAY show today, they were showing the people who lived to be 100 or older, man they looked OLD! but here is jack who lived right all the time and yet he didn't even get a spot on the smackers today show lives past 100. Did you know jack was on the TODAY show for his 90th birthday, they had a big birthday cake for him and he didn't eat a piece. Jack, you are 90, eat a dang piece of cake!!! He never ate junk, he always exercised, he spent his life showing us how to exercise. Did you know when he introduced lifting weights, doctors said don't do it, it could cause a heart attack??? But jack showed us that not only was it not bad for us, but actually good for us. He made such a difference in peoples lives. As a personal trainer, i dream of making a difference in some ones live. What a great feeling i get when i watch my clients step on a scale and i see their reaction to losing weight, or as i watch clients who couldn't do a push up when we started, gives me 3 sets of 10. Im like a proud mama!!
any way, back to jack. So he didn't live to be 111 yrs old, but do you know what he did??? He lived each day to the fullest, taking care of the only body God gave him. He treated it like the gift it is. He felt good, he looked great and he seemed to enjoy every day. He was a good husband and father, His wife said He was her best friend. They weren't sitting in a nursing home wasting away, they were active. Right now i have an uncle dying in a nursing home. they are removing the feeding tube and letting him die. My uncle is 84, he has been in a nursing home for years, waiting and hoping to die. He is a widower because my aunt died at 58 years old from COPD, from years of smoking. I dare you to tell me taking care of yourself doesn't matter. I dare you to continue to eat bad, be sedentary, drink too much, smoke too much, and not be sorry in the end. Believe me friend, im not saying im a great example, i spent way too many years smoking, and eating bad. BUt the older i get the more i realize how important every day decisions are. I realize this is the only body i get, so i have to make a decision to take care of it or gamble just hoping all will turn out for the best with out me doing any thing good for my body. Pick my friend what you will choose to do, none of us are getting any younger. I want to tell you what happen to me when i decided to take care of myself. I have lupus and have had it for about 6 years. after eating healthy and organic when possible, after getting plenty of exercise and taking supplements and vitamins, i went off all my medicines and have never felt better. Im so thankful for that, for i don't know of one drug out there that doesn't have a list of side effects. im glad im med free for now.
So any way, Jack rest in peace. I bet your holding an exercise class right now up in heaven. Thank you for being an example to us fitness professionals, thank you for teaching americans how to care for our bodies. I could only dream of touching and influencing as many lives as you did. I wont, i know that, but some where along the line i hope i make a difference to just one.
