FAD DIETS!!!

The grapefruit diet, the cabbage diet, the red wine diet..... the list goes on and on. So many types of diets, which is best??? The answer is simple, none of them. The is no magic diet or magic pill,if it was that simple over 60% of americans wouldnt be obese.

The healthy way to do it is eat less, exercise more. Its that simple. One pound has 3500 calories,to lose a pound you have to burn off 3500 extra calories. To gain a pound, you have to take in 3500 extra calories. Heres an example: walking or running 1 mile burns off about 100 calories. A banana has about 110 calories in it. Wow, so you jog a mile and think you get to eat more because you exercised. Wrong, thats why people dont lose weight. Just because you exercise doesnt mean you can eat more calories.

Okay, so we have fats, carbs, proteins. whats good, whats not good??? Its so confusing. A few years back, if you wanted to lose weight you just got all fat free foods. Your grocery cart was full of fat free cookies, smart ones frozen dinners, rice cakes, fat free salad dressings, fat free cheez its, etc. And we never lost weight and we would give up,right?? Why? Because thats the wrong way to diet, fat free foods add lots of sugars to their product so it taste better. So now what? Eat foods that are whole, fresh living foods. Eat produce, lean meats, dont be afraid of nuts, cheeses, peanut butter and olive oil. All these products have lots of vitamins, antioxidants, they are healthy, they fill you up,they are full of protein so they will keep you full longer. I know they say they have lots of fat in these foods but its the good fat the kind your body needs. Watch how many sugar grams you are taking in. Your body doesnt need much sugar, it will make the sugar it needs. If you have reached the age of about 35 or so, watch how many carbs you are taking in. About the age of 35  our bodies stop breaking down carbs the way it use to. Dont go without carbs, we need them, they provide energy to our bodies, and God knows we all need energy!! But choose healthy carbs, like whole grains, complex carbs, like fruits, veggies and you can even have potatoes in small amounts. These kind of carbs also provide fiber to your body and they will not spike your insulin levels, They are healthy and we need them!!

So if you are trying to lose weight, and you need a snack, dont go for the rice cake, theres nothing healthy in there. It wont keep you full or hold you over til dinner. Eat a handful of nuts, or an apple with peanut butter. You will stay full, you have now given your body nutrition instead of empty calories.
